2022年、真剣に、ジャンルを問わず沢山の音楽を聴いて来た人ならほぼ間違いなく今年のベストニューカマーに猫戦の名前を挙げるのではないかとさえ思う。ポスト相対性理論的な匿名性と空気公団のような（日常的すぎる）日常性、その対極するどちらにも歌声とエレクトリックピアノのトレモロが美しく共鳴していて、アレンジにも一切の無駄がなく、足りないところがない。今年を象徴する傑作。
1. 山下達郎, softly
基本的にベストアルバムを選出する際、1位から決める。それは当然と言えば当然で、まずは消去法で選んでも意味がないということ、そして、大事なのは軸であるからだ。
軸というのは、なにもその年の価値基準に限った話ではなく、過去現在未来の「横軸」も意味する。カッコつけた言い方をすれば「音楽シーンの流れ（）」みたいなもの。
なのでベストアルバムを決める際は、なるべく、流れを意識しつつ、そして予見的でありうる作品を選んで来たつもりである。
と、冒頭からグダグダ書いておいてなんだが、山下達郎のSOFTLYをベストアルアムに選んだ理由は別に、最近になってシティポップ再評価の波が来ているからみたいなことでは決してない ー そもそもセイント・ペプシがサンプリングしたのなんてもう10年も前の話（！）なのだから ー。もっとシンプルな事だ。
SOFTLYを聴いてると、ついつい一緒に口ずさんでしまう。少しの物真似と共に。彼のように歌えないことはわかっているのに。声に出したいメロディが常にそこにある。いつだってずっと理想であり、憧れー。僕にとってそんなミュージシャンは彼以外に、もういない。
来年も素晴らしい作品にたくさん出会えますように。
